Awards as quality control, not decoration

At the AI Design Award 2025, five of my series reached finalist status, four with a special recognition: Fragile Harmony, Fragments of Perception, Multiverse of Threads, The Stage of Ordinary Things and Unreal Threads.

Why submit at all, in a field that produces millions of images a day?

• A deadline finishes series. Without one, a series is never done: there is always one more variant. Submission forces the edit: which eight images ARE the work?
• A jury is a cold audience. Friends and followers are warm. A jury compares your work against everything else submitted that year, with no context and no goodwill. Surviving that says more than likes.
• Recognition compounds. One award is luck. A pattern of recognitions across years (ADC as a young creative, SDV Gold in classic advertising, now AI awards) draws the actual line of a career: the craft moved, the standard didn’t.

I treat submissions as quality control with a certificate. The work gets better because it has to stand somewhere. The award is the byproduct.
